Landscape Architect Apprentice

Who we're looking for

FORM Garden Design is developing the next generation of Landscape Architects in the state of Maryland through our unique two-year Apprenticeship Program. This program has been designed for newly graduated landscape architecture students who are interested in receiving a hands-on, well-rounded training in the field of Landscape Architecture to prepare them for the LARE exam. This program is unique in the fact that it is a clearly defined two-year commitment on the part of both FORM Garden Design and the apprentice. At the end of the two years, FORM Garden Design will help connect graduates of the apprenticeship program with local firms whose area of practice best aligns with their professional interests moving forward in their career.

Three Tenants of the Apprenticeship

  1. Learning through work and seeing work get built.

  2. Receiving a well-rounded education, guided by the focus areas of the LARE Professional Licensure Exam. Graduates of the Apprenticeship Program will be qualified and prepared to sit for their exam at the time of completion.

  3. Preparing for your career. Apprenticeship graduates will come out of the program with better-defined professional areas of interest. FORM will support the next phase of apprentice’s careers by connecting the apprentice with firms who meet their interests at the end of their two-year commitment.

What you will be doing

  • Visiting project sites and supporting site inventory and analysis

  • Creating schematic design presentation books for our clients

  • Preparing graphic and written presentations

  • Creating 3D and perspective renderings

  • Developing construction document packages

  • Coordinating pricing and supporting construction of projects

  • Sourcing and ordering plants for our projects

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture

  • Internship Experience at a related firm preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Confidence in hand drawing

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office

  • Proficiency in Sketchup, VectorWorks (or AutoCAD)

  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage time/tasks

  • Passion for design and desire to learn
