Averil Christens-Barry

Garden Designer & Director of Growth

Averil Christens-Barry is a Garden Designer and Director of Growth at FORM Garden Design, where she combines a passion for thoughtful landscapes with a talent for storytelling, strategy, and business development. In her dual role, Averil contributes to the design of residential gardens while leading the firm's marketing, communications, and growth initiatives. She enjoys connecting people with the value of well-designed landscapes and helping expand FORM's impact throughout the region.

Averil joined FORM while pursuing her Master of Landscape Architecture at Morgan State University, where she spent three years balancing graduate school with hands-on experience at the firm before transitioning into her current role after earning her MLA. Her background in communications, operations, and fundraising brings a unique perspective to the design process, allowing her to bridge creative vision with client experience and organizational growth.

Before entering the field of landscape architecture, Averil built a career in the nonprofit sector, leading fundraising campaigns, community engagement initiatives, and large-scale events. That experience shaped her collaborative approach to design and strengthened her skills in project management, relationship building, and strategic communications.

Outside the office, Averil enjoys spending time in her own garden with her husband and dog, exploring public gardens and natural landscapes, and continuing to deepen her knowledge of plants, ecology, and garden design.
